The Mineworkers Development Agency (MDA) is a leading, innovative development agency in Southern Africa that assists ex-mine workers, their families and communities to recognise their socio-economic potential.
The pressure remains as the mining sector continues to decline. Many families continue to rely on a single income earner. Over 500 000 jobs have been lost in the sector since the late 1980s placing tremendous pressure on retrenched workers, their families and the communities among whom they live.
The Mineworkers Investment Trust (MIT), through the MDA, funds projects and programmes that uplift and improve the quality of life for mine, energy and construction workers, and their dependents, impacting over a million individuals.
